“I’m still on set shooting ‘The Color Purple’ musical film adaptation for 8 working days and this is by far the best and most needed birthday surprise my sister @leandriaj,” Fantasia captioned the video post. “My cast, family, friends and the entire Color Purple cast made a special birthday video for me (coming soon). It gave me the boost I needed to make this journey as Celie again.”

“My life was all over the place at the time,” Fantasia said of playing Celie on stage for nearly nine months. “So, it’s not fun to carry Celie’s weight and my weight. I remember in interviews and radio stations, when they asked me, I said, ‘Okay, I did it, but I’ll never do it again. .”

Suffice to say, Fantasia, who won a Drama World Award for her Broadway performance, is now happy to have her on board.

“It would be absolutely amazing,” she said. “I’m glad I didn’t let that door close. I’ve discussed it with the whole family and everyone is saying, ‘I think you should do this.'”
