The iPhone 14 series is on the way and is expected to be released in September, so there have been plenty of rumors about Apple’s upcoming phone colors.
While it’s not certain yet, we now have an idea of all the shades the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max might come in.
Below, we take a look at all the iPhone 14 color rumours we’ve heard so far, including how likely it is that certain colors will actually arrive in the coming weeks. We’re also exploring which colors might be dropped this year.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max Colors
Below you’ll find the colors we’ve heard the iPhone 14 might offer at launch. It’s worth noting that for the most part, the iPhone 14 Max isn’t mentioned, but based on past form, we expect this larger model to come in the same color palette as the standard iPhone 14, just like the iPhone 13 mini Currently available in the same colors as the iPhone 13.
Purple could be the new hue for this year’s iPhone 14, as the iPhone 13 doesn’t have a purple hue at all. As a new shade, it’s a color we’re not quite sure about, but it’s been leaked at least twice.
First, a post on Weibo (the Chinese social network) from a user named “Oivo sauce ovo” claims we’ll see a shade of purple that may change hue depending on the light.
The post has been removed, but before it was discovered by AppleTrack (opens in new tab). However, this source does not have much of a leaked record. So take the promise of color-changing iPhones with a pinch of salt.
But recently, @Jioriku (opens in new tab) Also claimed on Twitter that there will be a purple shade, though they didn’t mention if it would change shades.
We’re hoping purple is planned, though, as we’re big fans of color phones and the purple iPhone 12, and the new Bora Purple finish on the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is stunning.
Green is another rumored shade, and it’s another shade we’re not entirely sure about, because while the iPhone 13 is available in green, we’ve only seen one source mention an iPhone in the same color so far 14.
That source is the aforementioned @Jioriku – another one that isn’t much documented. So we wouldn’t expect to see a green iPhone 14, but we wouldn’t rule it out either, and like purple, it’s a shade we’d very much like to see.
Although the current closest color to the iPhone 13 is called Midnight (which is actually a very dark blue), black is the color we fully expect to see on the iPhone 14, as it’s one of the most popular smartphone colors out there.
At least two sources – the two mentioned above – indicate plans to use a black shade, and while it’s not a color we’re very excited about, it’s a safe, understated option that looks smart and will appeal to a lot of people people.
Like black, white — or its nearest neighbor — Starlight, as it might be officially called — is a color Apple offers in its current lineup and will likely continue to be offered in the iPhone 14 as it Such a popular smartphone color choice in general.
This has also been leaked by the two sources mentioned above, so it’s quite possible.
The same two sources also mention blue, another hue you’ll also find on the iPhone 13 — although the iPhone 14’s blue may reportedly be more sky blue than the iPhone 13.
We’d say this color is unlikely to be black or white since it’s not a standard shade, but given it’s available on current iPhones and rumored by multiple sources, there’s a good chance we’ll see it.
We’re just wondering where the shades of this color will fall, as past generations of iPhones have experimented with different shades of blue on different models.
Apple loves red almost as much as it loves black and white, so a red iPhone 14 is always a good chance, which is especially plausible here since both sources above mention it.
It is expected to be a bright shade, officially known as PRODUCT(RED), which is being marketed to help fight global health emergencies like AIDS and COVID-19.
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max Colors
Below you’ll find the rumored iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max colors, some of which may be the same colors offered on the standard iPhone 14, but many of them may vary.
gold or rose gold
There are at least three sources suggesting that we’ll see the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in some kind of gold, but the first of them – leaker Jon Prosser – points to rose gold, and the other two – mentioned above – just put the It is described as “gold”.
At the moment we’re not sure which is more accurate, but we think it’s most likely just gold, since the iPhone 13 Pro already has a gold version, and sources say gold is recent.
We think one of those shades is a strong possibility, though, as Apple has formed both shades, and multiple sources increase the likelihood that this finish will actually show up in the lineup.
If it were just gold and not rose gold, expect it to be an understated, almost muted shade, a form of the past.
We’ve heard that purple is the new hue for all iPhone 14 models, including the Pro models; though we think the Pro models could be darker or lighter, as Apple tends to keep these phones smart and understated.
Both @Jioriku and the aforementioned Weibo source pointed to the purple color, as did leaker Jon Prosser, who even shared an unofficial rendering of how it would look in a Front Page Tech video (opens in new tab). You can see one of these above, showing a distinctly lilac color that’s less saturated than the purple on the 2021 iPhone 12/12 Mini.
The same source who mentioned the green iPhone 14 also said we’ll also get the green iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, so that’s another color possibility. If all these phones get it, we don’t think the Pro model will be as bright green as the standard and Max versions, but that’s just speculation for now.
Right now, only one source has mentioned this shade, so we’re not at all confident in how it will look, although Alpine Green is an option on the iPhone 13 Pro lineup, so we might see a variation on this existing theme in 2022 .
@Jioriku and “Oivo sauce ovo” both have name checks for Graphite, besides that, it’s also a color that you can use with the iPhone 13 Pro series, so we think this color is likely.
It’s essentially a black alternative to the Pro line, offering dark colors and smart, but frankly boring colors.
Silver is another color you can get with the iPhone 13 Pro, it’s another color mentioned by the same two sources as most other shades, so there’s a good chance it’s available on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max , because brilliantly.
It’s a fairly pale silver on the current model, the closest thing to white — sorry, starlight — you can get on the iPhone 13 Pro, so expect the same thing again this year.
Which colors will be lost?
picture 1 of 2
The colors above are not guaranteed to indicate the correct number of shades for each phone, though, as the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max are rumored to be available in six colors, and the Pro model in five, which matches the iPhone 13 series.
That said, this is likely to be the full and final selection of colors we see. So which shades are not suitable?
Well, if these leaks are anything to go by, then we might not see pink on the iPhone 14, which appears to be replaced by a new shade of purple. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may be missing the Sierra Blue hue that the iPhone 13 Pro can use, or could be replaced by purple.
So, the only brand new color this year might be purple, if these leaked results are accurate, but don’t be surprised if some of the other colors have different shades from their predecessors, you can see our iPhone 13 above or in Color guide.
