The big screen returns to Watford – full screening list

Watford’s big screen returns this week, showcasing some of the world’s most popular films.

Screenings will include blockbusters such as Avengers: Infinity War, Dune, Uncharted and Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as swing-rhythm masterpieces such as Hairspray, Chicago and West Side Story.

If you’re looking for something more refined, there will be screenings of Downton Abbey, Chaplin and The Great Gatsby, as well as famous family classics like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, ET, The Mask and The Italian Job.

Screens will take place at Knutsford Field on Radlett Road from August 8-14, then at Woodside Field in Gaston from August 15-21.

The screenings offered by Watford District Council are free to watch, no reservations required. There will also be food and beverage vendors at each site.

Watford Mayor Peter Taylor said: “The big screen has become a mainstay of our programme of major events, bringing residents great movies all summer long – and it’s all free!

“There’s no better way to kill a hot summer day. I look forward to seeing everyone there.”

One of the shows on the big screen that will be a hit with kids is Good Wood Gang – a ragtag group of animal friends.

Inspired by the town’s Goodwood Park, these animations are designed to encourage children to believe in the power and magic of the local park as a backdrop for their own stories.

Razi Hassan, one of the creators of Good Wood Gang, said: “We think people will absolutely love Good Wood Gang.

“What’s not to love? We’ve summoned some great characters!

“There’s the warm and ruddy cookie grandma who happens to bake the most delicious food, Patrick the lion looking for a good place to live and so heads to Good Wood, and Freddie the fox obsessed with Italian food ).”

Co-creator Ian Port added: “We believe every child deserves the opportunity to be ‘like Boopi’, the little boy who befriends Pecan and the rest of the Good Wood Gang and continues to explore the magic of the local park.”
