To Kill a Mockingbird National Tour Coming to Citizens Bank Opera House

Directed by Bartlett Sher, Aaron Sorkin’s new series based on Harper Lee’s classic novel comes to Boston as part of a multi-year North American national tour. Emmy winner Richard Thomas, who recently celebrated 60 years of acting on stage and screen, will play the role of “Atticus Finch.”

The rest of the cast will be announced at a later date. The Boston premiere of To Kill a Mockingbird will be held at the Citizens Bank Opera House April 5-17, 2022, as part of Boston Music Season on Lexus Broadway. “

“To Kill a Mockingbird” holds the record for the highest-grossing U.S. box office in Broadway history, and broke its own weekly record eight times at Broadway’s Schubert Theater. On February 26, 2020, To Kill a Mockingbird became the first-ever Broadway play to be performed on the world’s most famous stage in New York’s Madison Square Garden in the presence of approximately 18,000 New York City public school students. This event is the largest single performance in the history of world theatre. Broadway production resumes on October 5, 2021 at the Schubert Theater, starring Jeff Daniels and Tony Award-winner Celia Keenan-Borg. A production will begin on 10 March 2022 at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End, starring Rafe Spall.

Set in Alabama in 1934, Harper Lee’s enduring story of racial injustice and childhood innocence focuses on one of the most revered figures in American literature, small-town lawyer Atticus Finch. The cast of characters includes Atticus’ daughter Scott, her brother Jem, their housekeeper and caretaker Caponia, their visiting friend Dill, and a mysterious neighbor, the reclusive Arthur “Shh” Radley. Other indelible residents of Maycomb, Alabama, are Bob Ewell, Tom Robinson, prosecutors Horace Gilmer, Judge Taylor and Mayella Ewell.
